Rainy days Part II…

Play is the work of children. Its benefits are without end. Its scope, limitless.

I have been reading, therefore, with total absorption, the entries of Operation Playtime, at play-activities.com.

12 days of play how it was meant to be. How we know it should be done. But how it doesn’t always get done.

Hence the reason Day 8 struck a chord with me.  I’m too used to heading off to the nearest soft play centre for Isaac to let off some steam and hone those all-important gross motor skills. Too often the Great British weather sees us playing within four walls. But it really should not be an excuse.

So, we donned our coats.. our wellies.. our warm clothes.. and Isaac pipes up “What are we going to buy at the shop mummy?”…… Oh dear.. things are worse than I thought.. My son does really associate going out with a trip to the supermarket!! Eek… there then ensues protests regarding “just a walk” which were eventually sated with the incentive of using his beloved Thomas the Tank umbrella.

And we were off…

And it was great..

We splashed in puddles… we spotted lots of vehicles.. we listened to birds… why don’t we do this more often?

What great wellies! Thanks for joining in. So glad you could get out and have a blast in the puddles. My middle one’s favourite thing in the whole world would be an official puddle jumper.

Love that coat. I just picked up the exact same on at the Goodwill a few weeks ago. My son wants to wear it all the time. I tell him only when it rains, which of couse is a lot in Seattle. Your son is a cutie!
